Have you had Long COVID or ME/CFS for over 2 years?

HERITAGE (Health Effects fRom Infection sequelae: Tailoring services and Advancing GuidancE in Long Covid and ME/CFS) is a £1.4 million UK-wide NIHR-funded study designed to improve understanding, care and NHS service provision for Long Covid and ME/CFS. The study is mentioned in the DHSC Delivery Plan for ME/CFS. NIHR award website.

The study will recruit 3,000 participants: 2,000 from specialist NHS services across four participating sites and 1,000 from the wider UK-wide community who are not currently receiving specialist NHS care.

By including both groups, we aim to better understand differences in patient experiences, access to care and unmet need. Long Covid and ME/CFS are common, often disabling conditions, yet access to specialist services remains inconsistent across the UK.

HERITAGE will:

  • Improve understanding of the overlap between Long Covid and ME/CFS.
  • Evaluate different models of specialist care.
  • Inform the development of a future National Service Framework (NSF) for these conditions.
